Take Action

Across the nation, AFSCME women represent more than half of our union's membership. Women are leading the charge to create change for working families. Given the new challenges in a post-Janus world and upcoming 2020 statewide and national elections, it is imperative that AFSCME Women are prepared to stand tall for worker’s rights. More women must increase their knowledge of the issues that matter to workers and continue to learn important leadership skills to increase political and workplace power on a greater scale.

That's why we are excited to announce the 2019 AFSCME Women's Leadership Academy Online. The Academy is designed for all AFSCME women. It will provide a deeper understanding of the issues that affect working women, strengthen leadership skills and activism, and motivate AFSCME Women to aspire to be leaders in our workplaces and local unions.

Join other AFSCME Women each month to engage in discussions, view master classes, and complete online activities on topics such as Inclusive Leadership, Political Activism as Leadership, Leadership in the Workplace, and Women Leaders in AFSCME. In the end, you will receive a certificate of completion. Below are the requirements for participation in the Academy and a web address to register.

 Requirements:

  • Participate in four 30-45-minute Facebook Live and webinar sessions that will be conducted once per month from September through December

  • Completion of a short quiz/evaluation after each session

  • Completion of an action related to the monthly theme that seeks to strengthen your skills in union activism.

We hope you take advantage of this powerful opportunity to help build our union by attending the AFSCME Women's Leadership Academy Online
